Highly desirable woodland plant which when established is tolerant of dry shade. When emerging these plants look like little Wombles! As they go upwards the peltateleaves start to open like Umbrellas to reveal the wonderful finely dissectedfoliage on the leaves which can be up yo 15cm in diameter. They usuallygrow to about 60cm in height and then the flower spike extends for a further20cm with fairly insignificant spays of cream flower. Shade semi shade may be grander in humus soil but does not want to be waterlogged in Winter.Seed raised so could be variable as hybridized with S subglabrata.
